DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, March 22 & 29\, April 5 & 12; 12:30-2:00pm \nFacilitators: Judy Shepalo & Ellen Ryan \nA workshop with four sessions designed to help maturing adults have the conversations necessary to successfully become conscious of the issues common to growing older\, to get out of denial\, and to become proactive in their own aging process. Participants will learn about the many advantages of living in a supportive community such as cohousing and can decide if aging in community is right for them. Key concepts discussed will include interdependence\, compassionate communication\, reciprocal support\, social cohesion\, the environmental and economic impact of cohousing\, the risk of taking charge or doing nothing at all and recognition that we do not outgrow our need for others. \nThis is a repeat of the course offered in 2020 and 2021 – now with a focus on small group discussions. Participants will watch a video tutorial prior to each discussion session. \nPlease spread the word. \nRegister for the Zoom Workshop by contacting Judy Shepalo at cohousinghamilton@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Senior Walk: Hamilton Harbour and Bayfront Waterfront Trail\nDate: Thursday\, January 9\, 2020\nTime: 10:00am – 11:30am\nLocation: Starting at 200 Harbour Front Drive\, Hamilton\nSponsors: Iroquoia-Bruce Trail\, Hamilton Conservation Authority\, Hamilton Aging in Community\n\nJoin us as guest leader Christine Bowen from Bay Area Restoration Park (BARC) takes us on a leisurely interpretive walk on the loop around Bayfront Park. 2-3 km. Paved trail. Christine will update us on the issues and restoration projects that are happing in the area. Learn about the challenges of the Remedial Action Plan to help clean our harbour waters. Christine is very knowledgeable and you can ask all the questions you like about the wildlife including invasive species like Common Carp and Phragmites that live in the area and what steps are being taken to control them. Optional stop at Williams Cafe. \nThis is a paved path that can be tricky if snow or ice covered. Wear boots with icers and bring poles if you have them. It can be chilly by the bay so dress warm. Bring water and snacks. Cancelled in inclement weather. Registration not required but if you want to let me know you’re coming I can inform you if walk is cancelled.
