In January, we will begin the sixth term of our Intergenerational Memoir Project. We are recruiting older adults to serve as partners, each with an individual student taking a McMaster Aging and Health course. So far, approximately 70 student-senior partners have taken part in 3 years.
The student’s role is to assist the senior to write life stories – sometimes by recording conversations and writing drafts for the senior to review, sometimes by asking questions and suggesting resources for stories the senior has already written, and sometimes other projects like typing up saved letters from the past. The project is guided by the senior.
We will celebrate this year’s partnerships in a zoom event: MemoirFest23, on March 24th, at 3:30 pm.
If you or someone you know is interested, please send an email to Ellen Ryan, hamiltonagingcommunity@gmail.

In the new Memoir Section, you can access MemoirFest21 and MemoirFest22 (see this YouTube link), showcasing our student-senior partners with excerpts of the seniors’ memoirs presented by either the senior or their partner. You also can find a variety of other resources related to writing life stories and creativity in later life.
Let me know if you have suggestions for other resources which might be included here.
