Mindfulness Meditation and Aging On-line Workshop
Thursday, October 17 @ 2 pm

~ by Loretta Jaunzarins

On the recommendation of my doctor, this past May I started going to water fit three times a week. Working out in the deep end of the pool has been the best exercise for my knee which has four meniscus tears. Keeping the knee and leg muscles strong and flexible has made such a difference to my activity levels, enjoyment and over all physical fitness.

Besides the great exercise from water fit, I’ve found the women who attend to be friendly and chatty, always welcoming. I join a water fit class at several different pools across the city, depending on my schedule, and they are all the same: great work out and great comradery. I’ve discovered that women of all ages and abilities attend, some in their 90’s and some who have been going to water fit for decades.

This morning, I overheard two women, in their 80’s, talking about the benefits of meditation. I didn’t catch all their conversation, but they were talking about how it complements their workout at the pool. Pretty cool, I thought as I grabbed a floatation device and made my way to the deep end. I would call these women ‘wise’. They are wise because they are being intentional about their health and wellness as they age.

We all know there are no guarantees when it comes to health and aging. Yet, it can be more than just the luck of the draw. We can positively impact our quality of life if we are intentional about it.

OCTOBER WORKSHOP

On October 17 at 2 pm, Hamilton Aging in Community is delighted to welcome Ellen De Guerre to speak to us about Mindfulness and Aging. Ellen is a mindfulness, meditation and movement coach with twenty years of experience. She knows how mindfulness can help prevent depression and anxiety, improve cognition, fight disease, manage pain and offer a better overall quality of life.

At this on-line workshop, Ellen will teach us the basics of mindfulness, the differences between informal and formal practice and what barriers or distractions get in our way. I’m especially interested in Ellen’s helpful techniques for caregivers to help prevent burnout.

You and your family and friends are invited to attend this special event which promises to help us all learn how to improve our quality of life.

This event is free, please use this link to register!
